In 2001, a few Houstonians started an education program, Purna Shiksha (Complete Education) in some Indian schools. The program provided topics for all-round development of a child and special coaching in commonly deficient subjects like English and mathematics. Along with the usual studies, it taught necessity of cleanliness, yoga, meditation, mannerism, public speaking, memory enhancement training, etc through day to day practice and uses. There were educational outings to develop leadership, volunteering etc. These essential topics were integrated in the scheme in such a way that their studies and learning become more enjoyable. The scheme was essentially based on the educational ideals and methodology of Swami Vivekananda, Rabindra Nath Tagore, Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose and Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar. The scheme was supported by reputed Indian educationists and persons well-known in social welfare services. Philanthropist, Dr. Hemprova Ghosh McDonald of Waco, Texas financially supported the scheme. The Success of this Purna Shiksha service laid the foundation of March Together.
